Rural district of Wolfenbüttel supports works for exploratory drilling for shaft 5

The Federal Office for Radiation Protection expressly appreciates the support provided by the rural district of Wolfenbüttel in terms of the works on the exploratory drilling for the new shaft 5. As the local nature conservation authority, the rural district of Wolfenbüttel issued a dispensation for the Asse GmbH to carry out the exploratory drilling in the landscape protection area. The Lower Saxon State Forestry Agency has been tasked with carrying out the necessary works in co-ordination with the Asse GmbH. This affects an area covering maximum 5,000 square metres. The new shaft 5 needs to be constructed to retrieve the waste from the Asse repository.
