One result of the comparison was that still existing uncertainties relating to the retrieval of the waste needed to be clarified initially. This is being done by an in-depth inquiry of facts (trial phase) by drilling into two emplacement chambers, opening them and recovering part of the waste test-wise. This is done to systematically answer open questions that are key to retrieval such as the radiation exposure to the operating staff.
On 1 June 2012, the drilling process for the investigation of emplacement chamber 7 on the 750-m level started.
